In the Enterprise LAN/SAN market, Picolight offers a family of 850nm and 1310nm VCSEL-based optical transceivers and components that are used to link network elements over distances ranging from a few meters to as much as 80 kilometers. Most enterprise and storage networks increasingly need access to high-speed metropolitan and wide area networks using Ethernet and Fibre Channel protocols. Picolight offers 1-Gbps and 10-Gbps Ethernet transceivers in various form factors to provide high-speed interconnection between routers and switches in the enterprise LAN, data center and backbone applications. In the storage area, Picolight offers 1-4 Gbps small form factor pluggable transceivers for Fibre Channel switch and host bus adapters. The optical switch and compute segment focuses on very-high-speed, Very-Short-Reach (VSR) systems with throughputs ranging from 10 Gbps to 100 Gbps moving large amounts of bandwidth at short distances—either from one line card to another, one module to another, or from shelf to shelf. In this market Picolight offers various 10-Gbps Ethernet form factors to interconnect switches and routers and parallel optics modules up to 40 Gbps for high-speed switch/router intra- and interconnection. In many of these applications, 850nm VCSEL has emerged as the only technology capable of keeping heat, EMI and power consumption to acceptable levels. In optical metro applications, high-speed fiber optic links connect metro access switches and routers with enterprise platforms on one side and metro cores on the other.
